Director: Rian Johnson
Looper is a 2012 action/sci-fi/thriller starring Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Emily Blunt. The film is about 'loopers' who are sent criminals to kill. The criminals are sent back in time from 30 years in the future, when time travel is now invented. Without giving too much away, it all gets complicated when one of the loopers, Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), recognizes one of the victims as himself and basically his world gets messed up!
Although it's a film which I wouldn't usually go and see, I got an invitation from Heather to go along with the LSR Box Office (the Leeds Student Radio film show) crew and I thought that it looked interesting so I thought I'd give it a chance.
Anyway, the first thing I have to say is that the plot isn't very realistic. I mean, is it really the best and most plausible way to get rid of criminals? You would also imagine the film to be about Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, looking at the plot, but it turns out to be about this random kid who is supposed to turn out to be this evil mind who, if not killed, will 'control the world' and make life horrible for anyone involved.
I'm starting to sound like I hated the film bit I actually really enjoyed it! I like a film now and again that's different to the rom-coms I usually watch and even though I got confused... A lot... I was hooked throughout. I can't seem to pin point why I enjoyed it so much though, I think it was just an interesting story, despite it's faults. (and I do have a slight crush on Joseph Gordon-Levitt, not going to lie to you, but who wouldn't?)
So if you're reading this and thinking about going to see Looper, I'd say just do it! What have you got to lose? (apart from the ridiculously priced cinema tickets these days (but it you go on Orange Wednesdays...)) Although if you're sensitive about children being murdered or gun violence, I'd give this one a miss.
