Film Review: Looper (2012)

Director: Rian Johnson

Looper is a 2012 action/sci-fi/thriller starring Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Emily Blunt. The film is about 'loopers' who are sent criminals to kill. The criminals are sent back in time from 30 years in the future, when time travel is now invented. Without giving too much away, it all gets complicated when one of the loopers, Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), recognizes one of the victims as himself and basically his world gets messed up!

Although it's a film which I wouldn't usually go and see, I got an invitation from Heather to go along with the LSR Box Office (the Leeds Student Radio film show) crew and I thought that it looked interesting so I thought I'd give it a chance.

Anyway, the first thing I have to say is that the plot isn't very realistic. I mean, is it really the best and most plausible way to get rid of criminals? You would also imagine the film to be about Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, looking at the plot, but it turns out to be about this random kid who is supposed to turn out to be this evil mind who, if not killed, will 'control the world' and make life horrible for anyone involved.

I'm starting to sound like I hated the film bit I actually really enjoyed it! I like a film now and again that's different to the rom-coms I usually watch and even though I got confused... A lot... I was hooked throughout. I can't seem to pin point why I enjoyed it so much though, I think it was just an interesting story, despite it's faults. (and I do have a slight crush on Joseph Gordon-Levitt, not going to lie to you, but who wouldn't?)

So if you're reading this and thinking about going to see Looper, I'd say just do it! What have you got to lose? (apart from the ridiculously priced cinema tickets these days (but it you go on Orange Wednesdays...)) Although if you're sensitive about children being murdered or gun violence, I'd give this one a miss.

Life Update: I Haven't Disappeared

Yo peeps of the blogging world!
I realise I haven't blogged in forever and I thought I best do...
I've been super busy lately and I'm going to try and tell you about my busy bee life!

1. I've started uni!
YIPEE! I'm now a fully registered student at the University of Leeds, which I'm loving. I've been getting involved with just about everything I can and getting to know people! I literally have barely stopped moving for the past 3 weeks! Being at uni's really weird and something that I definitely need another week or two to get used to but I'm having fun!

2. I've been chosen to volunteer at the 26th Leeds International Film Festival!
Our lecturers at uni told us that we could apply to volunteer to work at the film festival and I thought, why not? So I did and I got it! I never thought I would which just makes me even more excited!
There was a meeting last night where we got our festival t-shirts and badges to wear and I just can't wait to start working now! It's something I've never done before and even though we don't get paid, it's great experience and looks good on your CV! (So I'd advise anyone to go for it (if you're 18!))
Unfortunately this means I'm going to be even more busy but what's a freshers' year without a packed schedule?
For more info on the festival, you can either contact me or click on the pic!

So I started this post thinking I'd have more to write about... But I seem to have stopped. It's just basically uni why I'm so busy! I'm planning on recording another cover soon so keep your eyes peeled on my YouTube and I'll try and blog whenever I can!

Ta ta for now!

My NYC Nails

Classy Glassy, Oh SoHo Sweet & Lights-Camera-Glitter (£2.49 each from Superdrug)
Bodycare, 99p!

So this is probably one of my favourite things to do with my nails, it's great for going out on the town!
I start of with a coat of 'Classy Glassy', which dries super quick, then around 2 to 3 coats of 'Oh SoHo Sweet' as it's quite thin and really pale. I then use 1 coat of 'Lights-Camera-Glitter' as I find 2 coats is too glittery for my preference and this also dries really quick. Finally I use 2 coats of 'Classy Glassy' as 2 coats gets rid of the glittery, rough texture.

I only wear false nails every now and then because they're not great for your nails. I wear them if I go out or sometimes if I feel like it! I usually pay a bit more money than this for nails as I used to buy them a lot when I was younger and I found that the cheaper option was usually rubbish and broke and what not. But I found these in Bodycare and I thought I'd give them a chance as plain nails like these usually thicken up when you glue and paint them anyway.
But I think these are great and really good quality! They're only 99p and you get 3/4 of each size nail (I think there's 7 different sizes) so you can use the same pack more than once, I think I've used mine twice now. They also stay on for about 3 to 4 days but for the price, you can't complain! The only criticism I have is that they're supposed to be short and I have to cut them down quite a bit as they're quite long when you glue them on, although I do have really short nails.

So there you go! A low budget, great nail design for a bit of sparkle! Love it!

Wishlist

So I recently gained a good sum of money from when I was an extra in Emmerdale for a day and a half so I've been on the internet and looking at things that in reality I can't actually buy because I should really save my money... I've fancied buying myself some new things for when I start uni which is why I've been internet shopping like crazy!! It's a new start so I feel like I need new things, why not?

About 18 months ago, when I got my first ever wage, I bought myself a Cath Kidston purse and I still use it to this day and it still looks brand new! So I fancy treating myself to a new one and I've found these two that I like which I may buy in the near future. They're a little pricey but since my current purse has lasted so long, I don't mind paying.

I've wanted a new leather jacket for ages as I don't like the one I have now (well, my mum now has it) as it has elasticated wrists and it doesn't feel that fashionable. I've been looking around for a while and they're all sooo expensive and I found this from H&M which is a decent price!

I don't have much to say on the other 2, I just really want them :P

Meeting and Greeting Mcfly, 22.7.12

So I need to start off by saying I apologise as I was going to do this post ages ago but I've never got round to it... Or posting anything for that matter. I've been super busy and I've been here, there and everywhere!

Well what can I say? AMAZING!
So for the second year running we went to Mcfly's Manchester Meet and Greet. Some say "How did you get this?" Well the simple fact is, we pay £70 a year to subscribe to their website and become 'Annual + Pioneers' (if you wish to know more on this subject, I suggest checking out their website because I'd just confuse you!) You basically get around 45 minutes to wander around a room where Danny, Harry, Tom and Dougie are each stood in a corner and you get to chat to them and have photos with them and it's just amazing! I recommend anyone taking up an opportunity like this with their favourite band!

I really don't have anything else to say without getting over excited and spamming on the keyboard! It's also pretty wordless to describe these days; I got to meet 4 of my idols, who would be able to describe that?
